Rehydrate and improve your mood, critical thinking and maybe even become a better kisser! Sounds crazy right? But according to the many studies on water intake and brain function, drinking the proper amount of water is an absolute must-have for our brains to function properly. After all, our bodies are made up of 60% water and our brains are 75% water!
So what does this have to do with our mood? If our brains need to be rehydrated, even by as little as 2%, it only makes sense that it will affect our cognitive performance including attentiveness and memory, all of which are bound to affect our mood. Athletes can lose up to 6-10% of their water weight due to sweat so hydration is crucial for the brain and the body.
In studies of young women, fluid loss of just 1.36% after exercise was shown to impair both mood and concentration, plus increase the likelihood of headaches. Similar studies in men showed that a fluid loss of 1.56% affected working memory while also increasing feelings of anxiety and fatigue.
So always keep you favorite drinking water on hand and hydrate before you work out, rehydrate after exercise and remain so all day long.
As for the kissing? Researchers have found that hydrated lips show greater sensitivity to light touch. So drink up lovers!
